Itinerary

Arrival day
When you arrive at our base camp, located just a few kilometers from the Vioolsdrif border, you will be welcomed by our camp manager. You can unwind and explore after a day of travelling. A hearty dinner will be served at 7pm. After dinner, your guide will give you some pointers on how to pack. You are more than welcome to ask your guide questions about anything you may be uncertain about to put your mind at ease.
You will enjoy an early breakfast at base camp to fuel up for the day ahead. Your guide will then teach you everything you need to know before your adventure. This safety talk and equipment demonstration will include the following: a tutorial on how to row, what to do if you capsize and how to tackle the rapids. Remember to listen carefully to your guide and follow his instructions at all times – rather safe than sorry!

You will begin to row from base camp and get used to paddling. In the afternoon, you will have a well-deserved break for lunch on the riverbanks. You will continue downstream and enjoy the beautiful scenery, wildlife and refreshing water of the Orange River. After a day of hard work, you will find a camping spot on the riverbanks and unwind for the day. The guides will prepare a tasty dinner for you while you explore the riverbanks. After dinner you will sleep under the enchanting Namibian sky.
Wake up with the breathtaking sunrise while the guides prepare some breakfast. You will leisurely drift downstream and take in the stunning scenery of the Namib desert. You can swim, fish, play ball or just sit back and relax. After rowing about 45 kilometers, you will reach the extraction point at Sjambok. From there, we will transport you back to base camp, where you will enjoy dinner. You will overnight in the basecamp after your adventure.
After two lovely days on the river, you will have breakfast and then depart home to plan your next Orange River trip.

What to pack

It can be daunting when it’s time to pack for a trip like this. Don’t worry! We’re here to guide you. It is important that you don’t bring too much clothes. During the day we recommend you wear swimwear and a long sleeved shirt to keep the sun off. Try to bring only the essential toiletries: a small container of biodegradable soap, a toothbrush/toothpaste and toilet paper is all you need.

Sun protection is the most important thing to take with you on the river. Lots of sunscreen, a wide brimmed hat and a long sleeved shirt will save you from painful sunburns. Always remember enough sunscreen and plenty of water!
